Is creating and using a Digital ID mandatory in Australia?
No, the Act specifically states that a business must not, as a condition of providing a service, require an individual to create or use a Digital ID. Creating and using a Digital ID must be voluntary.1 Aug 2024
Is the ATO classed as a business?
No.
The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) is an Australian statutory agency and the principal revenue collection body for the Australian Government.
This important ‘technicality’ has allowed the Australian Government to bypass wording in the government Digital ID legislation that appeared to protect the public from a compulsory Digital ID.

Also, those individuals acting in taxation matters on behalf of a business must themselves have a Government Digital ID.
Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM): RAM is the system that links a person's Digital ID to a business's Digital ID, allowing them to act on behalf of the business.
We are told this action reflects a broader global trend toward such ‘services’, implying a need to follow the example of other nations.
How many Australian voters would find any value in such shallow support for what will ultimately be seen to be the most important legal change ever introduced in this country.
There are very many trends followed by other countries that would not be in Australian interests to imitate.
This requirement for a Government Digital ID doesn't affect the individual taxpayer yet, but if you think the introduction of mandatory Digital ID for business and their representing agent is anything but the thin edge of the wedge you will find yourself mistaken before very long.
As described above, a mandatory individual Government Digital ID is already essential to act on behalf of a business in taxation matters

Australia is in the throes of mandating a digital ID for access to social media to 'prevent harm to children under the age of 16'. This will of course require ALL adults to have their own digital ID to prove they are over the age of 16 if they wish to access social media themselves.

BEWARE, WORLD:
Australia is a testing ground for this, and it is NOT about the safety of children.
In these instances the acceptance of a digital ID is purely voluntary, but of course without it you will ultimately be prevented from using the internet at all. Please consider how that would affect your life EVERY DAY.
A VPN may help sidestep this for now, but don't expect that window to remain open.
Perhaps as a security measure in your interests, it will soon become necessary for individual taxpayers to use Digital ID for their taxation accounts.
Once a Government Digital ID has become universal in the country for taxation purposes, it appears only logical to extend its benefits to all recipients of other government services.
This will introduce additional convenience and security to the lives of all those receiving any government services or payments.
Is anyone excluded from these benefits provided by the government?

What would be the argument against the use of such a highly secure and convenient method of verifying your ID for online purchases?
You may not be the average Aussie, but it's possible you share his or her preference for a convenient life wherever possible and may find yourself drawn towards the use of this system where available.
We can be fully confident that all measures available to the Government will be employed to ensure complete security for our data stored in their system.
But eventually, perhaps following the hacking of critical databases here or elsewhere, it will become essential for our Digital ID to become a BIOMETRIC Digital ID for absolute security of our vital personal details.
Convenience and security will then be guaranteed owing to the unique nature of your fingerprints, iris characteristics, facial features, your gait or even your DNA makeup.
One digital record will ultimately be made consisting of a combination of all of your individually identifying features.
No unauthorised person or body will be able to access your information without your permission.
No access to either Government or Commercial activities or services will be possible in your name without verification with this unique ID.

What truly MARKS YOU as a unique individual?
To me, your ability to freely determine your words and actions is what distinguishes you as an individual person. You are able to exercise free will
Australians and people throughout the world who take the first step of accepting a national or international Digital ID will have taken a possibly irreversible step toward renouncing their free will in every way that matters.
If an untroubled life of self gratification and of conformity to dictated rules for every aspect of your life will satisfy you there is no need to concern yourself with the matter discussed here.
Others need to determine what actions they should take and what personal sacrifices they are prepared to make to avoid the outcome outlined in this article.

Although the warning given here first came to my attention in the Christian Bible it applies to everyone on Earth, regardless of any religious affiliation.
When a man of centuries ago was told of this coming development there existed no earthly human concepts regarding today's technology so the warning was given in terms appropriate to the times.
The message was meant to be given to everyone and is said to have been delivered by an angel [messenger] of God along with instructions to ensure that everyone heard the message.
While many will automatically reject this recorded warning as delusional and others see it as, if true, evidence of time travel, it isn't necessarily either of those things.
A sufficiently advanced civilization in our distant past may, having studied our nature and behaviour in detail over an extensive period, and being aware of their own development (and perhaps that of others) have been able to accurately foresee this outcome for us.
In general terms, the milestones achieved in our scientific and technological development may have been logically predictable to such a civilization and when coupled with an acute awareness of the behavioral flaws of our species the need for a warning may have been determined.
People of any religion or no religion are equally affected by this development which will be labelled by Christianity as The Mark of The Beast.
No access to either Government or Commercial activities or services will be possible in your name without verification with this unique ID.
It may clearly be seen from this that nobody will be able to buy or sell without a Government Biological Digital ID.
Even setting aside claims of ancient warnings as a nonsense, anyone with intelligence should be able to see the ultimate destination of our current path is the total loss of individual freedom. ("Those with eyes to see and ears to hear", indicating a capacity for deep observation, critical thinking, and a nuanced understanding of complex situations.)

The forecast outcome is unlikely to be avoided and we must all individually deal with its consequences.
‘Authorised persons or bodies’ with access to your personal data will include many individuals, both government and non-government in addition to AI entities. None of these proceeds with your benefit foremost in their deliberations.
There is also certain to be unauthorised access to your data.
No matter how complex your unique ID may be, it remains essentially a password capable of duplication and misuse if falling into the wrong hands.
While your characteristics are essentially unalterable, it may be possible to rearrange the method of combining your individual characteristics to create a new ID to replace one that is compromised, but once ‘authorised’ access is gained by an intruder they may initiate such a rearrangement to provide future access to themselves, but not to you. (They may change your 'password'.)
What happens in the case of personal injury that alters an identifying characteristic? Probably a bureaucratic nightmare you would not survive.
If input data from biological sensors is intercepted and deciphered, how will malign access attempts based on this data be prevented?
Those accepting the biological digital ID for themselves will be surrendering their freedom to act independently, and each and every interaction, financial or otherwise will be accessible to others. ("everything that is concealed will be brought to light and made known to all.")
Those rejecting the biological digital ID will almost certainly be surrendering their life.
The eradication of all privacy inherent in the digital ID will be coupled with an end to all cash-based transactions.
Any significant interruption to electricity or the internet in Australia is already a life-threatening event for many, owing to our almost total dependency upon them for all the critical functions of our everyday life. Imagine the situation if such a loss occurred after the introduction of biological digital id and the elimination of cash.
In addition to an absolute opposition to the Government Digital ID and any attempt to introduce a biologically based version of it, we must, as a matter of great urgency, find ways to provide the essentials for our survival as a national community in the event of a significant interruption to electricity and/or internet services or the removal of our access to them owing to our lack of a Digital ID.
